What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a fantastic way to fix front teeth. You can whiten your teeth, close spaces, and create a great smile. We can even do virtually instant orthodontics to straighten crooked teeth.

Spaces between the teeth (diastemas)
Broken, chipped, or worn down teeth
Unsightly, stained or washed out fillings
Permanently stained or discolored teeth
Crooked teeth
Whiten dark yellow or stained teeth
Discolored teeth - either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth
Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)

Veneers, porcelain or plastic, are placed over the front teeth to change color shape of the teeth. Veneers are ideal for teeth that are too small, too big, or have uneven surfaces. It is very common for people to have imperfect teeth, either oddly shaped teeth, chipped teeth, crooked teeth, teeth with small holes in them, or an inappropriate sized tooth or teeth that have an odd appearance. Veneers solve such irregularities and create a durable and pleasing smile.

Veneers are very thin and are bonded on the front of your anterior teeth. These veneers are about 0.3mm to 0.5mm in thickness but are very strong once bonded to your teeth. They have a porcelain appearance with the strength, beauty, and durability. Veneers have several advantages over crowns.

There is no "dark line" that is sometimes seen with older front caps
They transmit light better and, therefore, have a more translucent appearance giving a natural, esthetic look
Veneers do not require the massive grinding of tooth structure that caps do, yet, they accomplish a lifelike esthetic result
They provide a natural tooth appearance
Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well
Porcelain veneers are stain resistant
The color of a porcelain veneer can be selected such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter
Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth's color and shape-veneers generally don't require the extensive shaping prior to the procedure that crowns do, yet offer a stronger, more aesthetic alternative to bonding

The first appointment usually involves some minor contouring of the front teeth and taking an impression of the teeth. The veneers are tried in, and, if satisfactory, they are bonded in place. A follow up visit is made in a week. The results are instant and spectacular.

There are two tooth veneers procedures available that correct discoloration of the teeth by removing the brown and yellow staining. While each work effectively, there are advantages and disadvantages to each procedure dependent upon your objectives and commitment to the processes. The type of procedures available should be discussed with your cosmetic dentist, and a they will recommend the most appropriate tooth veneers procedure for you.

Composite Veneer Procedure

Composite (direct) veneers are usually performed in a single visit to your cosmetic dentist. The procedure is an application of a bond and enamel directly to the tooth's surface.

 Porcelain Veneer Procedure

Porcelain (indirect) veneers are a very thin porcelain material. Usually porcelain veneers require two visits and also require a dental laboratory to create the final tooth restoration piece.

Lumineer Porcelain Veneer Procedure

Made of Cerinate porcelain, Lumineers are a new type of porcelain veneers. They are contact lens-thin, roughly .2 mm thick. Little to no tooth reduction in most cases is necessary with this type of veneer and anesthetics or numbing shots are not needed.
